A Record For Spam Comments

This morning when I checked my email, I had 166 comments on the blog. Of those, three were legitimate! That means from the time I left the office last night at 5:30 until 9:00am 163 spam comments had been left on the blog.

That’s got to be some kind of world record!

I had been meaning to install the math comment plugin. And this latest round of spam gave me the final motivation to do so.

Now, when you leave a comment on the site you’ll be asked to answer a simple math question, such as what is 3+4. Yes you can use a calculator on this test!

I suggest reading Lorelle’s article on comment spam.

I installed the Bad Behavior plugin and my spam stopped. I’ve only had it installed for 4 days now, but it’s already blocked over forty access attempts by spam bots to spam my site.

        I hope that helped.

Thanks for the tip. I did some research, Bad Behavior, Akismet, etc., but the simplest to install and use seemed to be this math comment plugin. So far it seems to be working. After that amazing 163 spam night, I haven’t had any spam comments since installing the plugin.

        Hope it keeps working.
