Evolving Times Is One Year Old

It’s a bit hard to believe that yesterday marked the one-year birthday for the Evolving Times blog. On January 28th, 2006 I posted my first entry, and the only entry for the month, I’m A Crappy Brother.

Evolving Times got off to a slow start, beginning its existence as an archive for the Evolving Times ezine articles. It was not until August that I got serious about this blog. But from that point on, I have not looked back.

One of the most exciting things about passing the one-year mark is that I can now have a monthly “retrospective” post and provide links to a few entries from that month in the previous year. This will give me an opportunity to give some of the archived entries here on ET a well-deserved encore.

I find it quite amazing that in this year of blogging I have written and posted over 200 entries (this is number 211 to be exact). If you ask me how I found the time, I’ll have to admit that I have absolutely no idea!

But wherever that time is coming from, I intend to keep on finding it and posting. There is certainly not a lack of topics. In fact I notice that the list of Titles for Evolving Times that I keep in my drafts folder grows much faster than I can write and post them.

Readership of Evolving Times continues to grow slowly and steadily. Unique Visitors in January is already over 6,000 with over 35,000 page views. The number of feed subscribers recently topped 100 (108 as of this moment) and continues to grow.

And while these numbers are still quite small in blogging terms, I am thrilled that my words are reaching so many.

Those of you who have been reading ET for a while might remember the somewhat  impetuous intention I set back in September of doubling the number of unique visitors each month.  That hasn’t happened (except in November) and that’s ok.

Sometimes the intention that comes from the initial burst of excitement and enthusiasm needs to be impetuous and bold before it ultimately settles into a more sustainable and grounded intention.

Traffic, including unique visitors, on ET has grown consistently 40 – 60% each month since September. And that feels like a very sustainable growth rate. Sure, that means I won’t have 1 million unique visitors by June. And that’s ok.

Because, after all, it’s not the quantity of visitors that counts, it’s the quality. And for quality visitors, I could not ask for any better!

When I began blogging, I had no idea it would be such an incredible medium for making connections. I have “met” so many amazing people through comment conversations, private contacts, and through reading your blogs.

It is truly an honor to be sharing this evolving space with all of you!

What will year two of Evolving Times bring? What surprises and excitement will unfold in this coming year? I’m not sure what could top ET’s December induction into the 9rules network.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

As we move into our second year, you have me deepest appreciation for helping to make Evolving Times a “success.”

Wow. That is impressive and inspiring. I’m relatively new here, and didn’t know the history. But I’m glad that I was one of those unique visitors a couple of months ago!

Thanks for all of the time you find to put in here.
